Diamonds As Investments.
Economic Turmoil.
In today’s day and age with all the economic turmoil, the common man has been left with the question “Where do I invest my money?”. The world stock markets have declined almost 50% of their value from the beginning of the year. Large financial companies and banks who were the pillars of the financial companies have gone down taking all of our hard earned money. You feel betrayed by your trusted, educated, learned and experienced financial advisors. The retirement money, the IRA’s and the 401K’s that you worked hard on to save, preserve and grow have suddenly lost most of their value to almost 50% of what it was worth just a year ago. Individuals who were very close to retirement, now have to completely re-evaluate their plans in order to survive through their golden retirement years.
Increased Expenses.
Gas prices have reached prices that were previously unheard off. The common man has seen his savings dwindle between the gas prices, high food prices and an overall inflation throughout the entire global economy. Common folks now have to work harder, longer and sometimes get two jobs just to make ends meet. We have all been in the same boat.
Investing in Diamonds.
It is now time to take a hard look at changing our investment habits. Originally, I was of the view that diamonds do not make good long term investments. However, this view has changed over the last few months. I now strongly recommend everyone to invest in diamonds and gold. Over the last few years, I have seen a steady increase in the value of diamonds. This has been significantly true in the case of higher carat weight diamonds such as 1 carat and above. However, where and from whom you buy it is of utmost importance.
Which Diamonds to Invest In?
I highly recommend investing in diamonds that are of higher clarity and color range. These include VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2 upto SI1 in clarity range. The color should be ranging in E, F or G. The clarity weights should be from 0.90 carats and above. Over time, the requirements for these clarity and color ranges have increased with an increase in customer education and the growth of the internet. More and more women prefer to get a higher clarity diamond than one which is cloudy. This has increased the demand with the supply remaining the same. This part of basic Economics 101 has lead to a gradual increase in prices over a period of time.
Magic Number Diamonds.
Magic number diamonds are the even number carat weight diamonds that most people ask for. These ideal sizes make for perfect investment. If you have the capital it would be a wise investment. The magic number diamonds are 0.50 carats, 0.75 carats, 1.00 carats, 1.25 carats, 1.50 carats, 1.75 carats, 2.00 carats, 2.25 carats, 2.50 carats so and so forth.
UPDATE
I have been getting several emails from individuals about how they were sold ‘investment diamonds’ from their local retail store. Investing in diamonds is recommended when you get them at the wholesale/cutter level. If any retailer mentions “These are investment diamonds” more research is warranteed. Just like all other forms of investment, investing in diamonds requires research and knowledge.
